Rohit Sharma Beats Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid With Cuttack Ton, Reaches Historic Milestones

Indian captain Rohit Sharma made a remarkable comeback with a strong century against England at Cuttack in the second ODI on Sunday, allowing him to surpass Rahul Dravid and secure a place among the top 10 run-scorers in ODI cricket. In Cuttack, each moment was valuable for fans who had eagerly waited for months to see Rohit perform at his best again. The Hitman put his challenges on hold, flawlessly timing and placing his shots to achieve 119 runs off 90 balls, including 12 fours and seven sixes. His innings were played at a strike rate of 132.22.

Rohit has scored 10,987 runs in 267 ODIs, boasting an average of 49.26 and a strike rate of 92.70. He has 32 hundreds and 57 half-centuries, with a top score of 264. He ranks as the 10th highest run-scorer in ODIs. On the other hand, Dravid has accumulated 10,889 runs in 344 matches and 318 innings, averaging 39.16, with 12 centuries, 83 fifties, and a highest score of 153.

Rohit surpassed the legendary Sachin Tendulkar to become the second-highest run-scorer for India as an opener in international cricket. In 343 games, he has made 15,404 runs at an average of 45.43, including 44 centuries and 79 fifties. His highest score stands at 264. The four-wicket victory in Cuttack marked Rohit’s 36th ODI win as captain. He is currently tied with the legendary Viv Richards for the third-most victories as a captain in this format. Clive Lloyd, Ricky Ponting, and Virat are equal at the top, each having 39 victories in ODIs as captain.

Rohit moved a step nearer to surpassing Pakistan’s former dynamic all-rounder Shahid Afridi for the most sixes in men’s ODI history.  Rohit struck seven maximums in his 119-run blitzkrieg, surpassing Chris Gayle’s 331-run record. With 338 sixes in men’s ODIs, Rohit stands in second place after his daring performance; only Afridi has more sixes (351).
