News Mania Desk / Piyal Chatterjee / 5th August 2025

Both incidents might be linked to a powerful 8.8 magnitude earthquake that struck a nearby region last week, triggering tsunami alerts reaching as far as French Polynesia and Chile. Russian specialists had cautioned that powerful aftershocks could occur for several weeks following Wednesday’s earthquake – which was among the strongest ever documented and prompted millions to evacuate.

The 7.0 magnitude earthquake on Sunday struck the Kuril Islands and might cause waves reaching 18cm (7in), according to Russia’s emergency ministry.
It stated that individuals in three regions of Kamchatka “should continue to relocate from the coastline,” even with the low wave heights.

The most recent documented eruption of Krasheninnikov occurred in the 15th century, as stated by the leader of the Kamchatka Volcanic Eruption Response Team.

Olga Girina noted that it could be connected to the previous 8.8 magnitude quake, as reported by Russian state news agency RIA.The Kamchatka Peninsula is secluded yet located in the “Pacific Ring of Fire,” a term used due to the numerous earthquakes and volcanoes found in this area.
