School manager booked under anti-conversion law

After scores of parents created ruckus in a school in Kanpur, accusing its management of teaching Islamic ‘kalma’ to their children, police late on Monday evening booked the manager of the school under UP anti-conversion law for hurting religious sentiments.
The police said the parent of a student had lodged a complaint about ‘kalma’ being recited in Florets International School during morning prayers. ACP Sisamau Nishank Sharma said, As per the FIR, the school has been attempting to teach the students about conversions following which there have been some changes in the behaviour of the children. The complaint further says that the students were forced to recite ‘kalma’ inside the school premises and demanded to seal the building completely. It also sought a refund of fees and re-admissions to other schools accordingly.
According to the police, they were alerted by a tweet that alleged that the school on P Road, Sisamau in the city was making students recite Islamic prayers during morning prayers. Following this, a joint team of officials from the district administration and police visited the school and met the authorities, who informed them that their students have been reciting prayers of four religions for the last several years and no parent had objected to it.
On Monday morning, scores of guardians created a ruckus at the school accusing its management of teaching Islamic ‘kalma’ to their children after the news went viral on social media.

Amid protests, a local corporator had even sprinkled Gangajal on the school premises to ‘purify’ it. Corporator Mahendra Nath Shukla, who had brought Gangajal with him, raised slogans and demanded strict action against the
school authorities. The parents had alleged that the children were allegedly
being taught ‘La ilaha illa Mohammed Rasool Allah’ during
morning prayers.

Ankita Yadav, principal of Florets International School had said on Monday that “under ‘sarva dharma sambhav’ ideology, we used to organise prayers for all four religions in the morning assembly. We want to teach the students that
all religions are equal. But now as many parents have raised objections, from Saturday itself we have withdrawn it from the morning assembly. We only recite the national anthem in assembly”
