Lalit Jha, the key accused in Parliament security breach, arrested!

(December 15): Lalit Jha, the key accused in Parliament security breach, was Friday sent to 7-day police custody by Delhi’s Patiala House Court. Delhi Police’s counsel said the accused has “confessed” that he is the “prime conspirator” in the case and that he needs to be taken to various states to recover evidence. Public Prosecutor Akhand Pratap Singh further stated that the phones need to be recovered to uncover the conspiracy.

The Delhi Police Thursday evening arrested Kolkata resident Lalit Jha, the fifth accused in the Parliament security breach, amid a political face-off between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Trinamool Congress (TMC) over a photo that featured Jha and TMC MLA Tapas Roy.

Lalit Jha, the mastermind of the attack on our Temple of Democracy, had been in close association with TMC’s Tapas Roy for a long time… Isn’t this proof enough for investigation into the connivance of the leader?

Trinamool Congress leader Tapas Roy on Friday denied having any link with the Parliament security breach ‘mastermind’ Lalit Jha. This comes a day after BJP West Bengal unit head Sukanta Majumdar shared a photo of Roy with Lalit, alleging that the two were close associates.

“BJP does not understand the seriousness of the issue. I don’t know who he is. I heard he is arrested. What does BJP want to prove with this photo? Is there any other image of his with me? Is there any circumstantial evidence or any kind of evidence?” said the TMC MLA on his photograph with Lalit Jha.

Consequent to recent Parliament breach, the Delhi Assembly was placed under a heavy layer of security on Friday with curbs on movement and a thorough checking of vehicles and passes. The passes were issued after proper authorisation and verification through the Directorate of Information and Publicity.

“Adequate number of Delhi Police and para military personnel were deployed. They were monitoring movement of people and vehicles outside the Vidhan Sabha. The passes for visitors as well as media persons were also issued after proper authorisation and verification through DIP. An Assembly official vetted the passes issued to media persons and security personnel frisked them before entry into the Assembly premises,” a senior officer said. (PTI)
