Seniors Will Receive Such A Reduction In Rail Fares
The committee recommended that the concessions that were eliminated for different senior citizen categories during the Covid outbreak roughly two and a half years ago be looked at once more.
This was highlighted in the report recently delivered to Parliament by Radha Mohan Singh, chairman of the Standing Committee on Railways of the Parliament.
According to the commission, the railways ceased offering elderly citizens discounts in a number of categories in light of the epidemic and the Covid protocol. In this, women over the age of 58 received a 50% concession, while men over the age of 60 received a 40% concession.
The committee stated that because the railways are now returning to normal, they should carefully review the concessions made in each category.
The committee requests that the senior citizen concession prior to Covid is revisited and that at the very least the sleeper AC-3 be given consideration for an urgent concession. Prior to the Corona pandemic, railroads offered discounts in 54 areas.
According to the Ministry of Railways, the concession has been implemented for 11 categories, including four Divyang categories, patients, and students, but there is currently no plan to exempt senior folks. It should be mentioned that railroads offer discounts on rail fares in more than 50 classes, ranging from 10% to 100%.
These classifications were more relaxed:
Deaf, Deaf, Blind, Handicapped, Mentally Ill, Disabled Passenger, Senior Citizen, Sportsman, Artist, Widow, Student, Sportsman, Artist, Film Technician, Police, Army, and Paramilitary murdered while battling terrorism Widows of military members, etc., received a discount. Eighty percent of the concessions offered by the Railways in various categories go to senior folks.
