Shastri Makes A Determination Regarding Ganguly’s Likely Successor As BCCI President

On October 18, Roger Binny, a key player in India’s 1983 World Cup-winning campaign, will assume the role of BCCI president. Sourav Ganguly, a former captain of India, will no longer retain a formal role on the board because he reportedly refused the opportunity to lead the IPL, and Binny will take his place. Binny’s appointment is imminent because he is the only candidate who has submitted a nomination for president and will be chosen without opposition at the AGM on October 18. Ravi Shastri, a former India coach, and Binny’s former teammate was pleased with the outcome. Shastri asserted that Binny meets the requirements to lead the BCCI to success and advance Indian cricket.

Binny played for India in 27 Tests and 72 ODIs, getting 47 and 77 wickets and nearly 1500 runs respectively. His greatest contribution came from his bowling, namely during the 1983 World Cup in England, where his medium pace helped him take 18 wickets. Shastri, who was also a member of India’s first World Cup victory in 1983 under Kapil Dev’s leadership, suggested that Binny’s first task be to improve spectator accessibility to cricket in India.

While Arun Dhumal, who served as treasurer during Jay Shah’s last term, will take over as IPL chairman in place of Brijesh Patel, Rajiv Shukla will continue in his role as vice president.
