Shiv Sena members damaged a hotel in Mumbai’s Khar region on Sunday following stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra’s show, which included a ‘gaddar’ (traitor) comment about Maharashtra’s deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde, according to police. The workers stormed Hotel Unicontinental, where the show took place, and called for an FIR against Kamra. Following the incident, all Shiv Sena members gathered at Khar Police Station to file a complaint.
According to a police officer, Shiv Sena members showed up at the hotel’s auditorium following Kamra’s comment about Shinde becoming popular on social media.
Sanjay Raut, a leader of Shiv Sena (UBT), also posted the video on X with the caption “Kunal Ka Kamal.”
Kunal Kamra ridiculed Eknath Shinde by altering a song from the movie Dil To Pagal Hai, eliciting laughter from the crowd. Shiv Sena MP Naresh Mhaske cautioned Kamra that Sena members would track him all over the nation, saying in a video message, “You will be forced to flee India.”
Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Aaditya Thackeray condemned the attack on the studio, calling it an act of cowardice.
In a post on X, Thackeray wrote, “Mindhe’s (read Shinde) coward gang breaks the comedy show stage where comedian @kunalkamra88 put out a song on Eknath mindhe, which was 100 per cent true. Only an insecure coward would react to a song by someone.”
He further questioned the state’s law and order, adding, “By the way, law and order in the state? Another attempt to undermine the CM and Home Minister by Eknath Mindhe.”
Thackeray frequently refers to Shinde as “Mindhe,” a Marathi term meaning subservient, to mock him.
