The Vande Bharat Express—considered one of the country's most premium trains—has once again found itself embroiled in controversy regarding the quality of its food. A female passenger traveling from Varanasi to Deoghar alleged that she suffered a severe allergic reaction after consuming the food served on the train, while her two-year-old son developed diarrhea. Photographs shared on social media, along with medical reports, have intensified the controversy surrounding this incident. This episode has once again raised questions regarding the hygiene and safety of the food provided on trains. The woman stated that on March 27, she was traveling from Varanasi to Deoghar aboard Train No. 22500, the Vande Bharat Express, and was seated in Coach E1. She recounted that shortly after consuming the lunch served on the train, her lips began to swell, and she started exhibiting symptoms of an allergic reaction across her body. She shared photographs of her condition on the social media platform 'X', in which her lips appeared visibly swollen. She also shared a doctor's prescription detailing the medical treatment she received. The woman asserted that had she not received timely medical attention, her condition could have deteriorated further.
The woman also claimed that her two-year-old son, who was traveling with her, also fell ill due to the food. The child began suffering from diarrhea while still en route, causing him significant distress. The woman stated that she sought medical treatment at a hospital within 24 hours of the incident, leading to an improvement in the health of both herself and her son. Furthermore, she raised concerns regarding the drinking water served on the train, noting that it had an unusual taste. This entire sequence of events has heightened concerns regarding passenger safety and the quality of food served on trains. In response to the incident, the IRCTC issued a clarification stating that the food served on that particular day had been inspected and was found to be entirely satisfactory. The IRCTC posted on 'X' that no complaints regarding the quality of food were received from any other passenger on that day. However, the woman did not appear satisfied with this response and stated that even if no one else fell ill, she and her son were indeed affected. Subsequently, IRCTC requested full details from her via direct message and assured her that an investigation would be conducted. With several such incidents surfacing in recent months, questions regarding the quality of food served by the Railways are steadily intensifying.
