Siri saves life of Apple user after he was left immobile in bathroom for 2 days

A senior citizen in Florida is immensely thankful for Apple’s voice assistant, which helped save his life while he struggled to survive alone in his home for nearly two days following a stroke. Siri assisted him in contacting his daughter, who subsequently dialed 911 and made sure that emergency services arrived at his location during those crucial hours.

Siri aided 70-year-old Daniel Vallaire from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, in reaching out to his daughter through a voice command. As reported by local news station WSVN, Vallaire suffered a stroke and collapsed onto the bathroom floor. He could not move and attempted to crawl to a different room. It is said that he lay on the bathroom floor for 48 hours. Nonetheless, after gathering the bravery to move into the living room, Vallaire got close to his phone and directed Siri to call his daughter, who subsequently reached out to emergency services.

“I told Siri to call Victoria Vallaire, and she complied.” “If I simply had a landline, there’s no chance I could have reached it,” Vallaire informed WSVN. “If this had occurred without [Siri], I wouldn’t be present,” he mentioned.

Apple has incorporated Siri into all its devices, enabling users to trigger the voice assistant with a straightforward command: “Hey Siri.” The company has also recently revised the command, allowing users to trigger Siri just by saying “Hey.” Users can modify the settings by navigating to Settings > Siri or Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri, and then selecting Siri or Hey Siri.

To enhance Siri’s conversational abilities, Apple has launched a redesigned version of Siri. The updated Siri was revealed alongside the release of iOS 18 and the debut of Apple Intelligence. This updated Siri features a revamped appearance, enhanced conversational skills, and even the capability to utilize ChatGPT for retrieving information based on the user’s requests.

As stated by Apple, the updated Siri possesses improved conversational skills and can retain the context of the user’s earlier inquiries. Furthermore, interactions with Siri are reported to feel more authentic and individualized.

In addition to Siri, Apple has committed to health and emergency features such as fall detection and AFib detection to assist users during emergencies. Through the Apple Watch’s fall detection function, the device alerts emergency services and sends notifications immediately when it senses a user has fallen, utilizing the Emergency SOS via satellite system. Conversely, the irregular heartbeat notification function on the Apple Watch notifies users whenever the device senses a heartbeat irregularity that could indicate atrial fibrillation (AFib).
