Six Key Bills, Including Major Amendments to Disaster Management Law, to Be Introduced in Upcoming Monsoon Parliament Session

As the Monsoon Session of Parliament approaches, six significant bills are set to be introduced, including a notable amendment to the disaster management law. The session, commencing on July 22 and running through August 12, will see a flurry of legislative activity, with key proposals aimed at modernizing various sectors and enhancing administrative efficiency.
Among the prominent bills scheduled for presentation is the revised Disaster Management Act, which aims to update and strengthen the existing framework for disaster response and management. This bill reflects the government’s commitment to improving disaster preparedness and response mechanisms to better handle emergencies and safeguard communities.
In addition to the disaster management amendment, the session will feature the Finance Bill, which outlines the government’s financial strategies and budgetary allocations for the coming year. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is set to present the Union Budget on July 23, detailing the fiscal policies and economic priorities of the government.
Another significant bill on the agenda is the Bhartiya Vayuyan Vidheyak, 2024, which seeks to replace the outdated Aircraft Act of 1934. This proposed legislation is designed to modernize and streamline regulations in the civil aviation sector, aiming to facilitate ease of doing business and promote growth in the industry.
The session will also address several other bills, including The Boilers Bill, which will replace a pre-independence era law to ensure updated regulations for boiler safety and efficiency. Additionally, the Coffee (Promotion and Development) Bill and the Rubber (Promotion and Development) Bill are on the list, both intended to bolster the respective industries through targeted promotion and development measures.
The Lok Sabha bulletin issued on Thursday evening outlined the full list of bills and legislative activities planned for the Monsoon Session. This session is poised to be crucial as it encompasses a range of legislative reforms and updates across various sectors.
To facilitate and manage the parliamentary proceedings, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has constituted the Business Advisory Committee (BAC). The BAC, chaired by Speaker Birla, includes a diverse group of members representing different political parties. The committee is responsible for setting the parliamentary agenda and ensuring that the legislative process proceeds smoothly.
The BAC members include Sudip Bandyopadhyay (TMC), P P Chaudhary (BJP), Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu (TDP), Nishikant Dubey (BJP), Gaurav Gogoi (Congress), Sanjay Jaiswal (BJP), Dileshwar Kamait (JD-U), Bhartruhari Mahtab (BJP), Dayanidhi Maran (DMK), Baijayant Panda (BJP), Arvind Sawant (Shiv Sena-UBT), Kodikunnil Suresh (Congress), Anurag Thakur (BJP), and Lalji Verma (SP).
