Sonali Phogat’s Assistant Coerced Her Into Taking Drugs

Sonali Phogat, an actor and BJP politician, was allegedly forced to take drugs just hours before she passed away in August. The CBI investigation agency has named two people as suspects. Sudhir Sangwan, the personal assistant of the Haryana BJP politician, and Sukhwinder Singh were charged with drugging and killing the woman under duress. August saw the arrest of both.
On November 21, the Central Bureau of Investigation submitted a charge sheet against both defendants to a Goa court.
Before the matter was turned over to the CBI, the first investigation was undertaken by the Goa police.
The accused pushed Ms. Phogat to consume meth at the renowned restaurant/nightclub Curlies on Anjuna beach, according to earlier claims made by the Goa police, who cited security camera evidence and admissions.
After drinking it, she felt uneasy and could hardly move on her own, so her friends drove her to the hotel where they were staying, the Grand Leonny. The following morning, the BJP leader was carried to St Anthony’s Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
The owner of the Curlies restaurant, Edwin Nunes, was detained by the Telangana Police earlier this month in Anjuna, Goa, on drug-related charges. One of the five people detained following the killing of Sonali Phogat in September was Mr. Nunes. Later, he was released on bond.
Following a narcotics bust in Telangana three months ago, Mr. Nunes is one of the dozens of drug dealers sought by the police in Hyderabad.
Sonali Phogat ran for assembly in 2019, however, she was unsuccessful. She joined the BJP back in 2008. Sanjay Phogat, her late husband, was also active in social and political circles and passed away six years ago.
