Vinod Khosla Defends OpenAI’s Sora 2, Slams Critics for “Tunnel Vision”

In a sharp rebuttal to detractors of OpenAI’s latest video-generation model Sora 2, prominent venture capitalist Vinod Khosla has accused critics of suffering from “tunnel vision” and lacking imagination. Khosla, an early backer of OpenAI, challenged those dismissing the technology as “AI slop,” urging that viewers—not elite critics—should judge its merit.
In a post on X, he argued that many criticisms stem from narrow-minded thinking and creative defensiveness, rather than open evaluation of the tool. He drew parallels to past resistance faced by technologies such as digital music and digital photography, which initially spurred backlash before becoming broadly accepted.
OpenAI introduced Sora 2 earlier this month, enabling users to generate video clips from text prompts, images, or even their voice and likeness. The model has received praise for producing lifelike visuals and lowering the barrier to video creation. Still, some commentators have warned that it may flood the internet with synthetic content and degrade authentic artistic expression.
Responding to concerns over intellectual property and misuse, OpenAI’s CEO Sam Altman recently unveiled new opt-in controls for character generation, along with plans to explore revenue-sharing models with rights holders whose content is used.
Khosla dismissed fears about disruption, saying Sora expands creative avenues and need not replace traditional video. “There will always be a place for classic media,” he noted, “but AI opens new dimensions of expression.” (indiatoday.in)
