Sourav Ganguly Will Run For President Of The Cricket Association Of Bengal
Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has entered the race for the Cricket Association of Bengal elections after being turned down for a second term as president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Ganguly revealed that he would be running for CAB president in a text message to The Indian Express. On October 31, CAB elections are set to take place.
Ganguly was given the position of Indian Premier League chairman but declined because he wanted to stay on as BCCI president. The former India captain was not supported for the position of ICC chairman, as the BCCI had already made plain.
It will be Ganguly’s second term as CAB president if he wins the election. From 2015 to 2019, he served as president. After that, he joined the BCCI.
The annual general meeting of the BCCI will be held on October 18 in Mumbai, and those who have submitted nominations, including former all-rounder Roger Binny for president and Jay Shah for secretary, are expected to be chosen without opposition.
Since no position for an office-bearer received more than one candidate, the BCCI election on October 11 is anticipated to be a formality. Rajeev Shukla, a member of the Rajya Sabha, is expected to continue serving as vice president. Two fresh faces will hold office for BCCI.
Assam Cricket Association’s Devajit Saikia will be the new joint secretary, while Mumbai’s BJP leader Ashish Shelar will serve as treasurer.
