OpenAI’s Chief Executive Officer, Sam Altman, received an unexpected birthday surprise from students at Stanford University during his recent address on Wednesday. As Altman engaged with the audience, students broke into a rendition of “Happy Birthday,” catching him off guard with their spontaneous gesture.
Sharing a snippet of the heartwarming moment on social media, Indian-origin Stanford student Allen Naliath humorously noted Altman’s reaction, stating, “Good to know @sama also hates when people sing happy birthday.” In the accompanying video, Altman appears pleasantly surprised yet slightly awkward as the students serenade him with the birthday tune, while a screen behind him displays the message, “Happy birthday, Sam.”
The occasion marked Altman’s participation in Stanford’s Entrepreneurial Thought Leaders series, where he engaged in conversation with Stanford lecturer Ravi Belani. In 2005, Altman made the decision to leave Stanford University, two years after enrolling in a computer science course, without completing his Bachelor’s degree.
