SUV Spare Tyres In Jalpaiguri, West Bengal, Valued At Rs 94 Lakh, Seized
On December 4 afternoon, police in Jalpaiguri’s Banerhat found a cache of Rs 94 lakh under an SUV’s spare tire and detained five persons who were in the car. Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister, then accused the BJP of importing hawala money into the state. There were five people detained.
The incident happened less than five months after three Jharkhand MLAs were arrested in Howrah at the end of July for transporting Rs 48 lakh.
The SUV was stopped by Jalpaiguri police on December 4 in Teliapara on Asian Highway 48. (a transnational route between India and Bhutan). The money was found after they drove the car to the police department.
