Following the Western country’s termination of its duty exemption for international postal commodities, Taiwan’s national postal service, Chunghwa Post, ceased all commercial mail operations to the United States on Monday, August 25, 2025, according to the news agency.
The national postal service of Taiwan will no longer accept or deliver any mail to the United States after Tuesday, August 26, 2025, when the commercial activity is suspended, according to the official report. The country took this action when the United States, under the Trump administration, ended its worldwide “de minimis” exemption on August 29, 2025. Due to this regulation, low-value goods were not subject to customs duties when they entered the Western country.
This action follows the suspension of all state-owned postal service operations in Europe and India to the US . On July 30, 2025, the US federal government declared that duty-free items up to $800 will no longer be available starting on August 29, 2025.
According to the country-specific International Emergency Economic Power Act (IEEPA) tariff regime, this directive implies that all foreign postal items entering the United States will be subject to customs duties. Duties on postal shipments must be collected and remitted by transport carriers who distribute their goods via the global postal network.
The interim suspension will be in place, with the exception of letters, documents, and gifts worth up to $100, according to India’s official notice.
“The Department of Posts has decided to temporarily suspend booking of all types of postal articles, destined for the USA, with effect from 25th August, 2025, except letters/documents and gift items up to $100 in value,” said the Government of India’s Department of Posts.
The department also said that the customers who have already booked their parcels for the United States will have to claim a refund for their bookings.
