Tencent T1 Reasoning Model Launched Amid Growing AI Competition in China

News Mania Desk / Piyal Chatterjee / 22nd March  2025

Chinese technology powerhouse Tencent on Friday evening unveiled the official edition of its T1 reasoning model, intensifying rivalry in China’s rapidly growing artificial intelligence industry. The enhanced T1 model provides quicker response times and improved features for handling long text documents, the company stated in a post on its official WeChat account.

T1 is able to “maintain a clear content logic and keep the text tidy and organized,” according to the post, while the rate of hallucination is “remarkably low.” This launch occurs amid increased competition in China’s AI sector after DeepSeek unveiled models that deliver similar or better performance than Western systems at significantly reduced costs.

Tencent had earlier launched a preview edition of T1 via platforms like its AI assistant app Yuanbao.

The official edition will utilize Tencent’s Turbo S foundational language model, announced at the end of last month, which the company asserts handles queries more swiftly than competitor DeepSeek’s R1 model.

A graph featured in the article comparing the T1 model with DeepSeek R1 indicated that Tencent surpassed it in certain knowledge and reasoning evaluations. Tencent has increased its AI funding in the past few months. On Thursday, the firm revealed intentions to raise capital investment in 2025, after already substantial AI expenditures in 2024.
