Over the years, a number of films about RAW operatives and special forces have been made in India. The reality of RAW agents and special forces is very different from the events depicted on TV, even though they may seem authentic. Author S. Hussain Zaidi’s book RAW Hitman, which details the life of RAW agent Laxman Singh Bisht, also known as Agent Lima, has been in the news lately. Laxman’s name is listed among the top 200 shooters in the world. Unexpectedly, Laxman is now working on screenplays for movies that try to capture the real life of a RAW agent.
In a podcast appearance, Laxman recounted how a Hindi song once saved his life during a special operation. Lucky Bisht shared this incident on Sushant Sinha’s podcast. He said, “We were on a special operation somewhere abroad. We went out to buy shoes and placed an order. Our friends at the camp had also asked us to get shoes for them. While we were placing the order, something unexpected happened. From a distance, we heard a Hindi song playing — and that too on the Myanmar border! It felt strange because it had been a long time since we’d heard a Hindi song. We asked the shopkeeper, ‘Is a Hindi song playing here?’ He replied, ‘Yes, it is.’ We asked, ‘Where is the sound coming from?’ The shopkeeper pointed to a place and said, ‘From over there.’ We then told him, ‘Please pack the shoes.’”
He continued, “We had to take back 20-25 pairs of shoes because not everyone in the camp had permission to go out. Only one or two people would receive an out-pass to bring supplies for everyone. As I was listening to the song, the ground suddenly shook, followed by an explosion. The place where we were buying shoes was being watched by someone who had tracked us. Information about us had been leaked, and a bomb had been planted at that location. Several shops were blown up. At first, we didn’t know the bomb was intended for us. That song saved us.”
During the conversation, Laxman revealed that the song was ‘Shukriya Shukriya Dard Jo Tune Diya’, sung by Sonu Nigam’s father, Agam Kumar Nigam. He added, “This happened around 2004-05. That song saved my life. The explosion was so powerful that even the glass windows of a nearby barber shop shattered.”
For those who don’t know, Laxman was alluding to the 2004 incident in Dimapur. The horrific event took place on October 2, 2004. In Nagaland’s Hong Kong Market, some 30 people lost their lives and more than 100 were hurt. It continues to rank among the bloodiest acts of terrorism in Nagaland’s history.
