Thai Transgender Tycoon Purchases The Miss Universe Pageant
A transgender rights advocate and businesswoman from Thailand paid $20 million for the operation of the Miss Universe contest. According to a statement published by her business, Anne Jakkapong Jakrajutatip will now be the first woman to own a global beauty pageant in the event’s 71-year history.
According to NBC News, Ms. Jakrajutatip has appeared in Thailand-specific episodes of Project Runway and Shark Tank. She serves as the CEO of JKN Global Group, a Thai television production firm.
According to NBC News, Ms. Jakarajutatip stated that adding the Miss Universe brand to her portfolio is a strong, strategic addition.
The Miss Universe Organization, which former President Donald Trump co-owned from 1996 until 2015, was purchased by Endeavour’s IMG. The organization’s leaders, Paula Shugart, the current president, and Amy Emmerich, the current CEO, will remain in place, the source added.
Mark Shapiro, president of Endeavour, said in a statement following the agreement with the JKN Global Group that he was proud of the progress the organization has achieved in creating a more effective platform where women can accomplish both their commercial ambitions and their cause-based activities.
Ms. Jakrajutatip established the Life Inspired for Thailand Foundation to advance transgender people’s rights to opportunity and dignity. She has been transparent about what it’s like to be a trans woman.
