Thane court sentences man to 20 years RI for sexually assault of 6-year-old girl

A special court in Thane district of Maharashtra sentenced a man to 20 years of strict imprisonment for the aggravated sexual assault of a six-year-old girl. A copy of the order issued last week became accessible on Tuesday. Public prosecutor Rekha Hiwrale stated that the event took place on February 11, 2021, in Bhayander.

The mother of the victim realized her daughter was gone when she came back from work and learned that the neighbor, the accused, had taken her out for a bite to eat.

The girl was discovered in the defendant’s home holding two ₹10 notes. She subsequently informed her mother that the suspect had given her money, taken off her pants, and touched her inappropriately. A report was filed against the accused, who was apprehended the following day.

The judge recognized the defendant’s request for mercy, noting his extended confinement since 2021 and his family’s reliance on him. Nevertheless, he referenced the legal requirements of the POCSO Act and sentenced the defendant to 20 years of hard labor, imposing a fine of ₹10,000 and an extra three months of simple imprisonment for non-payment.

The judge mandated that the duration the defendant has been incarcerated since his arrest be considered in his sentencing.
