The central government is trying to mislead the people of Assam by supporting the unfounded fear of Muslim supremacy in Assam for the sake of the upcoming elections.
Assam: 11 Dec 2023 During the Supreme Court’s hearing on the validity of Article 6 of the Assam Treaty, the lawyer for the Assam Sammilita Mahasangha said that by 2040, Hindus will become a minority in the state due to the increasing Muslim population in Assam as there is illegal infiltration accross the border and high birth rate of the community. In this context the report of former Governor S. K Sinha has been mentioned again. Surprisingly, Central Solicitor General Tushar Mehta fully supported this argument & expressed his worries .
Barak Democratic Front reacted to this issue.
Addressing the media at the BDF office on this day, Chief Convenor Pradeep Datta ray said that currently the Muslim population in India is 14 percent, while the Muslim population in Assam is only 30 percent. According to central government reports, the birth rate among Muslims is gradually declining . The birth rate is highest among the tribal population. Yet these unsubstantiated statements are being made and representatives of the central government are supporting these. He said that every time on the eve of elections, revoking fear of Muslim supremacy is one of the election tools of BJP for consolidating Hindu votes. This time also the same effort is going on. He said that if S.K Sinha’s report that many Bangladeshis are crossing the border into Assam every day is true, then why were they not identified in the NRC process? Did they vanished ? Pradeep Babu said that the days of fooling people by spreading these propaganda are over. It goes without saying that the condition of the Hindus of this state, especially the Bengali Hindus, has become more deplorable during the tenure of this government.
Pradip Datta Roy also said that if the BJP government is so sympathetic to Hindus, why is it unable to implement the Citizenship Amendment Bill even after it being signed by the President? Despite the Prime Minister’s promise, instead of demolishing the detention camp, why has a new detention camp been built, why are 2000 Bengali Hindus detained there? Why are 10 lakh Hindus not being given citizenship after completing the NRC process, why are their Aadhaar cards being suspended? Why Bengali Hindu candidates are being deprived of government appointments? He said that this government is not working for Hindus and is rather busy with its own political interests. Therefore, one of the objectives of the current BJP government in the state is to implement the chauvinist agenda under the guise of Hindu patriotism. He said the government will get the answer through the ballot & it is beyond doubt .
The BDF chief convener also said that Barak has been unfairly deprived in the process of reorganization of constituencies through last Delimitation process. He said that the people of Barak will not accept if the two assembly seats that have been snached from the valley are not returned before the upcoming elections. He said there is anger across the valley over this. Therefore, the status quo should be maintained for the time being and in the future, the constituencies should be rearranged through an impartial process on the basis of the increased population. And until that happens, the government should take the initiative to maintain the status quo. Otherwise, the current government will be fully responsible if manifestation of the accumulated anger of the people of Barak take adverse turn over this in coming days .
Convener Hrishikesh Dey and Jaydeep Bhattacharya informed this news in a press release on behalf of BDF.
