The Highest Rate In The Nation, 86% Of West Bengali Men Are At Risk Of Infertility

According to a statewide survey of couples seeking fertility treatment between 2018 and 2021 by an assisted reproductive institution, Bengal has the highest percentage of men in the nation with defective sperm parameters, a leading cause of infertility.

According to a study done on 64,452 couples, up to 86% of males in the state had at least one of the three primary sperm abnormalities that lead to infertility. In 61% of the 2,179 couples that sought treatment at the in-vitro fertilization (IVF) center in Bengal between January and October of this year, male infertility was one of the causes of infertility.

In addition to poor lifestyle choices, stress, late marriage, hectic job schedules, and poor eating habits, the poll points to precise and prompt diagnoses as the cause of the rise in the number of infertile guys.

Male infertility, according to experts in Kolkata, is on the rise throughout India, and Kolkata is not an exception. According to Souren Bhattacharjee, director of Birla Fertility and IVF Center, an equal amount of males finally find out they are infertile even though usually women are tested for infertility initially.

Now, more males are open to testing

The head of Birla Fertility and IVF Centre, Souren Bhattacharjee, stated that male infertility was on the rise and that men were solely responsible for about 20% of all infertility cases and a contributing factor in an additional 30% to 40%.

Male patients at Indira IVF in India who had abnormal sperm parameters increased from 63.7% in 2018 to 80.9% in 2021. According to Bhattacharjee, there are two causes for the rise in the number of infertile men over the past ten years.
