Kolkata, India – The Nexus of Good’s Kolkata Chapter hosted a “Celebrating Good” event on Sunday, 27th July 2025, at The Heritage School. Mr Anil Swarup IAS, Founder Chairman, Nexus of Good and Former Secretary, School Education and Coal presided over the program.

The event showcased the impactful work of PRISM (Professional Institute for Development and Socio Environmental Management), a non-profit organization dedicated to uplifting vulnerable sections of society, particularly women and children.

A key highlight was PRISM’s development of climate-smart, appropriate technologies aimed at fostering community resilience. These innovations include low-cost, non-polluting ambulances, cyclone and flood-resistant housing, and various solar-powered devices such as cookers and driers. PRISM’s approach emphasizes creating affordable, user-friendly, and environmentally sound solutions, always respecting traditional knowledge. The organization also focuses on women and child protection in North Bengal through its NIJHUM program. A recent crackdown by PRISM with the help of police and administration enabled 35 children returning back to their homes.

Nexus of Good, Kolkata Chapter, also honoured Kadam and Kadam Haat’s Pioneering Model of Sustainability and Artisan Empowerment transforming wastelands into wealth, empowers rural artisans, and champions a circular economy, embodying the core principles of the Nexus of Good initiative. Operating across West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Bihar, and Jammu & Kashmir, the organization have made a significant impact, working with over 10,000 artisans, 85% of whom are rural women. They have successfully trained these artisans to meet international quality standards and provided regular monthly work for over 1,100 individuals, leading to a 40% increase in their income.

Anandalok, also known as the Welfare Centre for the Mentally Handicapped (WCMH), a sanctuary of compassion and empowerment since its founding in 1990 also got the recognition of Nexus of Good. Initially established in the Kolkata suburbs, Anandalok found its permanent home in Badu, North 24 Parganas, in 1992 on land generously donated by Mr. P. K. Bose. Currently, this comprehensive residential facility provides a “home away from home” for 36 adults with intellectual disabilities, who come from families unable to support them. Anandalok offers more than just shelter; it focuses on holistic development through a structured daily routine. Residents engage in programs designed to enhance cognitive and creative skills, led by special educators, teachers, and caregivers. The curriculum includes vocational training in skills like silk-screen printing and candle making, which fosters a sense of dignity and financial independence through the sale of these products.
