After forty years apart, Tamil icons Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan are getting back together for a movie with Nelson. The two, along with director and music composer Anirudh Ravichander, appeared in a commercial for the movie, which was revealed over the weekend. But the euphoria surrounding the project quickly gave way to accusations that AI was utilized in the promotional video on social media. These rumors have now been dispelled by the producers.
To refute claims that artificial intelligence was employed, Red Giant Movies, the film’s producer, posted a new video on social media. Rajinikanth and Kamal are seen on set filming the promo with Nelson in the behind-the-scenes video. The video demonstrates the number of scenes that were filmed for the promotional video and features the extras—who were also suspected of being artificial intelligence—moving around and firing. Following their shoots, Rajinikanth and Kamal embrace as the video comes to a close. “Camera. Lights.” Take action. They posted the video along with the caption, “A sneak peek into the making of #KHxRK promo.”
“Those who said AI, go and start,” commented a fan after the video was posted. “Who said the models are AI,” commented another, referring to the extras in the scene. “And this is called the Real Hard work, Dedication and Commitment. AI may be nice but the Real is always permanent and it can be replaced!” read one comment. Numerous others left comments, calling out those who had claimed that the promo was made using AI, writing comments like, “Where is that fellow who claimed it’s AI,” and “2 minutes silence for the AI guys.”
The 1979 film Ninaithale Inikkum, which was directed by K. Balachander, was the final joint project between Rajinikanth and Kamal. Prior to that, they had acted together in movies like Pathinaru Vayathinile, Ilamai Oonjal Aadukirathu, Anthuleni Katha, and Apoorva Raagangal. When Lokesh Kanagaraj’s film Coolie was released last year, Rajinikanth started hinting at a reunion. Sundar C was first hired last year to helm a movie that starred Rajinikanth and was made by Kamal’s Raaj Kamal Films International. The project was then taken over by Cibi Chakaravarthi. Fans, however, were eagerly awaiting the announcement of the director of the movie starring both stars.
