Three-Day HRD Programme on Scientific Animal Husbandry and Aquaculture Begins at WBUAFS

Kolkata, January 27, 2026:
The Directorate of Research, Extension and Farms (DREF), West Bengal University of Animal & Fishery Sciences (WBUAFS), organized a Three-Day Human Resource Development (HRD) Programme for Programme Coordinators (PCs), Subject Matter Specialists (SMS) and technical staff from Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) across disciplines. The programme is themed “From Subsistence to Sustainability: Scientific Animal Husbandry and Aquaculture as Pathways for Smallholder Income Augmentation.”

The inaugural session was held at the Farmers’ Hostel, DREF, WBUAFS. The programme commenced with a welcome address by Prof. Subhasish Bataybal, Director, DREF, WBUAFS, who highlighted the role of scientific interventions in improving farmers’ livelihoods. Prof. Partha Das, Registrar, WBUAFS, addressed the gathering and emphasized capacity building among extension professionals.

Dr. Pradip Dey, Director, ICAR-ATARI Zone-5, Kolkata, spoke on the importance of technology transfer and innovation in animal husbandry and aquaculture. The presidential address was delivered by Dr. T. K. Datta, Vice-Chancellor, WBUAFS, who underlined sustainable practices as key drivers for income augmentation of smallholder farmers.

The inaugural session concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Bimal Kinkar Chand, Joint Director, DREF, WBUAFS. The programme aims to strengthen technical expertise and promote sustainable agricultural development.
