Chanditala, West Bengal : Just one day after the attack on TMC National General Secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee, another Trinamool Congress leader, MP Kalyan Banerjee, fell victim to public outrage on Sunday morning. While visiting the Chanditala Police Station to submit a memorandum concerning the arrest and alleged harassment of TMC workers, Kalyan Banerjee was reportedly targeted by stone-pelting, resulting in a severe head injury.

According to eyewitnesses and statements from Banerjee himself, the attack happened as he approached the police station. The MP was not only assaulted with stones but was also manhandled and greeted with black flags and chants of “Chor! Chor!” (Thief! Thief!). After suffering the injury, Banerjee collapsed but managed to stage a sit-in protest right outside the police station, holding a handkerchief to his head.

In a strong response, Banerjee openly criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the local police force. He accused Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari of acting like a โ€œdictatorโ€ who aims to eliminate Trinamool Congress leaders. Banerjee expressed particular frustration towards the police, stating that he survived the attack only through the timely intervention of personnel from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).

Appealing to the citizens of West Bengal, Banerjee urged the public to unite against what he described as an act of hooliganism. He called on people to take to the streets and register their protests in defense of democratic rights and political freedom.

This incident marks a continuing escalation in tensions between the ruling BJP and the opposition TMC in West Bengal.
