Global music sensation Ed Sheeran has unveiled the music video for his latest single ‘Sapphire’, and fans worldwide – particularly in India – are enjoying every moment of it. Characterized as a blend of cultures, the song merges Western pop with Punjabi rhythms and showcases two of India’s top celebrities: Bollywood icon Shah Rukh Khan and renowned vocalist Arijit Singh.
In the clip, Shah Rukh joyfully sings alongside Sheeran, while Arijit sings a heartfelt Punjabi line. Sheeran had earlier hinted that Arijit contributed to the lyrics, but fans were excited to discover he actually performs on the song as well.
Filmed completely in India, the video offers viewers a colorful visual journey — from the grand locations of Baahubali to the bustling streets of Kolkata and Hyderabad. Sheeran can be observed using local buses, dancing with residents, relishing café experiences, and quietly standing near the Hooghly river. Shot in a point-of-view format, the video provides fans the sensation of experiencing the journey alongside him.
Fans on social media are having fun spotting tiny, unexpected background elements. One user joked about a Trinamool Congress (TMC) logo appearing in a frame, saying, “Bro, TMC wall paint in Ed’s song 😂😭”. Others spotted flower wall art and caf signs, excited that their city or culture made it into the video — even in small ways.
Sapphire is the third single from Sheeran’s upcoming album Play, which releases on 12 September. After songs like Azizam and Old Phone, Sapphire stands out as his most heartfelt global tribute yet.
