The most well-known music-streaming service in the world, Spotify, has prohibited all modified apps due to its strict anti-piracy policy. A Reddit post claims that Spotify has made API-level adjustments to guarantee that the service will only function on the official app. Spotify Wrapped 2024, an annual analysis of users’ music listening habits that contains information on most listened-to songs, favorite artists, albums, and more, is just a few days away from this strike.
Users of the modified Spotify app are now unable to access music and receive error messages such as “This playlist is empty; go home to find the playlist just for you.” Not only are mod users likely to be excluded from the Wrapped 2024 report, but they also run the risk of having their accounts permanently banned. On social media, this action by Spotify has caused a stir. Spotify can be accessed without a subscription, but in order to access features like offline and high-quality listening, a subscription must be current.
Not just Spotify, but using any modified app comes with its own risk, and it is always advised to stick to the official version. With cybercrimes on the rise, a modded app can lead to the stealing of personal data and financial fraud.
