According to a report, US President Donald Trump is actively involved in discussions with representatives from India, Israel, and Vietnam to negotiate trade agreements. The discussions are occurring before an impending deadline, which would lead to new tariffs on imports from these countries if no deal is achieved.
Donald Trump, via his social media site Truth Social, stated that the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam expressed the desire to reduce tariffs to zero if an agreement can be reached with the US.
According to reports , Trump is engaging in discussions for bilateral trade deals that could hinder the enactment of suggested tariffs.
Trump’s discussions with a limited number of countries mark the beginning of what is thought to be a broader trend of trade negotiations. Even though these nations represent just a small portion of those affected by his new tariff policy. China and Canada have both declared that they will respond with higher tariffs.
Eric Trump, one of the president’s sons, posted on social media, “I wouldn’t want to be the last country to try to negotiate with @realdonaldtrump,” he wrote on X. “The first to negotiate will win — the last will absolutely lose. I have seen this movie my entire life.”
Meanwhile, Trump himself appeared to confirm that he is open to dialogue with trading partners.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One on Thursday, he said, “Every country has called us. That’s the beauty of what we do, we put ourselves in the driver’s seat. As long as they are giving us something that’s good.”
On April 2, US President Donald Trump revealed new tariffs on India, Vietnam, and Israel as a component of his “reciprocal trade” strategy. Beginning April 9, India will encounter a 26% tariff on its exports to the US, Vietnam will face a 46% tariff, and Israel will see a 17% tariff.
