TUSI HOISTS THE TRICOLOUR AT 20,000 FEET
Nainital: While the country was celebrating the Independence Day with the maxim ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’, Naintal’s famous mountaineer, Tusi Anit Sah along with four of her mountaineering associates decided to take the Indian flag above 20,000 feet and fly it not over one but over two virgin and unnamed mountain peaks on the same day.
The five mountaineers reached Leh on August 7 and on the ninth day of their trek scaled two peaks near the Tso Kaar Lake on the same day with the peaks being at elevations of 6,180 and 6150 metres, to create a new record of sorts. They hoisted the Indian Tricolour on both the peaks and sang the Indian National Anthem before making a successful descent.
The team led by Everester Debbrat Mukherjee from Uttarkashi had Tusi, Kush, Saptrishi and Debram as the other members. All the members are affiliated to the Path Finder Mountaineering Club of West Bengal.
Tusi Anit Sah has the distinction of not only scaling Mount Everest but is the first Indian lady to scale Mount Kanchenjunja successfully and the first and perhaps the only lady in the world till date to scale Mount Tallai Sagar in the Gharwal region. The latter being such a difficult climb that that eighty percent of attempts to climb the peak have met with failure. Her zest for climbing the impossible has only seen to be believed.
