At an event in Kolkata on Friday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) election program for the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections. The manifesto included a number of security measures, governance changes, and welfare pledges.
After releasing the manifesto, Shah said, “Today, the Bharatiya Janata Party has just released its manifesto for the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections. This manifesto provides a path to overcome the deep despair prevailing across all sections of Bengal. It offers new direction for farmers facing uncertainty due to crop losses, for unemployed youth, and for women living in fear. It also gives renewed hope and confidence to every citizen concerned about Bengal’s culture and its pride.”
Key promises in the manifesto include implementation of the 7th Pay Commission for government employees, Rs 3,000 monthly assistance for women, and Rs 3,000 support for unemployed youth. The party also pledged to implement Ayushman Bharat and other central schemes fully, alongside free vaccination, cancer screening and institutional delivery for women. Among other announcements, the BJP promised to introduce a Uniform Civil Code (UCC) within six months, curb cow smuggling along the border, and generate one crore jobs in the state.
Expanding on the party’s vision, Shah added, “The patra is a way to get out of the darkness… will be a new path for jobless youth and scared women. PM Modi’s Viksit Bharat will be realised through this sankalp patra. Mamata Banerjee got a mandate to oust the Left… She got two mandates… and then through illegal immigration and a syndicate she won a third time. People are scared here and in despair, but they want hope now. We are working as the principal opposition party.”
Shah also outlined a series of additional proposals in the manifesto. The party promised to release white papers on alleged corruption under the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) governance and on the state’s law and order situation, alongside fast-track investigations led by a retired judge.
The party suggested targeted programs for important agricultural goods including potatoes, mangoes, and paddy, as well as the creation of a “Durga Suraksha Squad” to support women’s self-defense. The manifesto also calls for revitalizing historic tea gardens, creating a commission for Darjeeling tea, improving infrastructure, and creating a “blue economy” roadmap. The BJP also promised to establish a “Vande Mataram Museum” to highlight Bengal’s cultural legacy.
During his address, Shah invoked Rabindranath Tagore’s famous lines from Gitanjali, stating, “ When the mind is without fear and the head is held high .” He added, “We will begin development of Bengal through Bharosa (faith).”
Reiterating a hardline stance on illegal immigration, he said there would be zero tolerance for “ghuspathiya” (infiltrators), adding, “Select delete deport .. chun chunkar”.
“We had put our chargesheet before the people of Bengal. 15 April to 9 Feb …from new year to Tagore Jayanti – our patra is the journey of bharosa (faith). These 24 days will fulfil the dream of Bengal. This is bharosa of sonar bangla,” the BJP leader added.
