UN Commission Alleges War Crimes Against Palestinian Children, Israel Rejects Findings

A United Nations commission of inquiry has accused Israel of committing serious violations of international law against Palestinian children during the Gaza conflict, alleging that Israeli military actions have resulted in widespread suffering and may amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity. The findings, presented in a recent report, are expected to intensify international scrutiny of the ongoing conflict and its humanitarian consequences.
The Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and Israel said Palestinian children have borne a disproportionate share of the impact of the war. According to the report, thousands of minors have been killed, injured or displaced since the conflict escalated, while many others have been deprived of access to education, healthcare and basic necessities.
Investigators alleged that Israeli forces repeatedly conducted military operations in densely populated civilian areas despite being aware of the risks posed to children and other non-combatants. The report argued that the scale of casualties and destruction affecting minors pointed to grave breaches of international humanitarian law. It further stated that the war had effectively destroyed the childhood of an entire generation of Palestinian children, leaving deep physical and psychological scars.
Beyond the immediate impact of military operations, the commission highlighted the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, citing the destruction of homes, schools and medical facilities. The report said prolonged displacement, food shortages and limited access to essential services had severely affected the wellbeing and future prospects of children living in the territory.
The inquiry also examined allegations concerning Palestinian minors in the occupied West Bank. It documented claims of mistreatment, arbitrary detention and abuse, raising concerns about violations of international legal standards governing the treatment of children.
Israel strongly rejected the commission’s findings, describing the report as biased and politically motivated. Israeli officials maintained that military operations were directed at Hamas and other armed groups and insisted that efforts had been made to minimise civilian casualties. They also criticised the inquiry for failing to adequately address the actions of Hamas during the conflict.
