In a savage attack caught on CCTV, two attackers riding motorcycles shot and killed Lucky Oberoi, an AAP leader from Jalandhar, on Friday morning. The attackers approached Oberoi’s car, fired several close-range bullets, then quickly left the scene, according to the video. Around 7:30 am, the attack occurred in the Jalandhar district as the 38-year-old leader was on his way back from the Model Town gurdwara. Police say that when the event happened, Oberoi had just sat in his Mahindra Thar after making obeisance.

A man wearing a black hoodie is seen approaching Oberoi’s car with a gun in the terrifying series of events captured by the CCTV camera. He shoots several times at near-point-blank range, breaking the car’s windows. There are a number of onlookers who appear to be in shock. As the gunfire echoes, the assailant maintains his composure.

The video then shows him gesturing to a nearby accomplice who is waiting. Riding a white scooty, the accomplice swiftly steers the vehicle toward a nearby curve. Both assailants disappear from view in a matter of seconds, leaving the scene in disarray as witnesses gasp at the attack’s speed and daring.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused, who arrived on a Honda Activa, were well aware of Oberoi’s daily routine of visiting the gurdwara,” Commissioner of Police Dhanpreet Kaur Randhawa said. Randhawa indicated that old enmity appears to be the primary motive behind the killing. “There is no extortion angle so far,” she said.

The police have launched a citywide search, sealing the area with nearly 15 checkpoints and dispatching forensic teams to gather evidence. “We received information around 8 am, following which teams of senior officials and forensic experts were rushed to the spot to gather key evidence,” Randhawa said.

Opposition parties have criticized the murder. Jaiveer Shergill, the national spokesperson for the BJP, wrote on X: “The AAP government has turned Punjab into a playground for criminals and gangsters. Rule of law has been replaced by the rule of the gun.”
