The Uttar Pradesh government is making every effort for the Mahakumbh mela, which begins on January 13 and is expected to attract around 45 crore devotees by its conclusion on February 26. To guarantee the safe and efficient operation of the Mahakumbh, the Uttar Pradesh Police has assigned around 30,000 officers from 70 districts.
To monitor the millions of individuals, the police are utilizing technology, with the installation of 2,700 cameras powered by Artificial Intelligence. For the first time, officials will employ underwater drones, enabling real-time monitoring, particularly as countless devotees gather at the ghats to bathe at the Sangam, where the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers meet. To uphold order and guarantee the safety of pilgrims, the Uttar Pradesh Police will receive support from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the Central Armed Police Force.
The Uttar Pradesh government has additionally stationed 125 road ambulances and seven river ambulances specifically for the Mahakumbh to guarantee that pilgrims receive prompt assistance during health emergencies. To facilitate smooth travel for millions of worshippers attending the Mahakumbh, the Railways declared it would operate 13,000 trains, which includes 3,000 special trains, over a period exceeding 50 days.
One day prior to the grand spiritual event, Union Minister Jitendra Singh declared the introduction of three special trains from Katra in Jammu and Kashmir. “The inaugural Special Train is confirmed for January 24, departing from Katra Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Railway Station to Prayagraj and returning to Katra on January 26,” Singh stated. To aid the pilgrims’ journey, the IRCTC has established a ‘tent city’ offering accommodation for travelers. This year’s Mahakumbh, which takes place every 144 years, occurs when the planetary alignment of four bodies, including the Sun, Moon, Saturn, and Jupiter, is distinctively arranged.
The primary bathing ceremonies feature the Shahi Snan (royal bath), occurring on January 14 for Makar Sankranti, January 29 for Mauni Amavasya, and February 3 for Basant Panchami. Shankar Mahadevan will inaugurate the major cultural event, while Mohit Chauhan will take the stage during the closing ceremony.
