In the Union Budget 2026, presented in Parliament by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, the government announced a significant boost to internal security and digital infrastructure.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has been allocated ₹2.55 lakh crore, marking an increase of over 9 per cent compared to the previous financial year. The enhanced allocation is aimed at strengthening internal security, modernising police forces, improving border management, and supporting central armed police forces. The move underscores the government’s continued focus on national security and law enforcement preparedness.

In a major push to position India as a global digital and data hub, the government also announced a tax holiday for foreign companies offering cloud services using Indian data centres. This incentive is expected to attract global technology firms, boost investments in domestic data infrastructure, and promote data localisation. The measure aligns with India’s broader digital economy goals and its ambition to expand cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and data-driven services within the country.

Together, these measures reflect the Budget’s dual focus on strengthening national security and accelerating digital growth, while encouraging foreign investment and enhancing India’s strategic capabilities.
