In Srinagar on Tuesday, Union Minister of Law and Justice Arjun Ram Meghwal stated that a decision on the reinstatement of statehood for Jammu and Kashmir would be heard “very soon.” In an interview with media at Srinagar’s Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC), Meghwal called the matter “extremely delicate” while restating the Center’s dedication to the procedure.

According to him, Amit Shah, the home minister, has already promised the Lok Sabha that the proper procedure would be followed and that the people would get “what is due to them.” With an emphasis on technology-enabled legal services, Meghwal was in Srinagar to conduct a regional workshop on the Tele-Law (DISHA) program. His remarks regarding the political standing of the area, however, attracted notice right away.In response to the minister’s comments, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who was also there, voiced cautious hope. Although his government and the Center are still in constant communication, Abdullah said the process has taken longer than anticipated. The people of Jammu and Kashmir have been waiting for the “good news” for a year and a half, he said, and he hoped that the Union minister’s suggestion of an early decision would finally come to pass.
