UP woman compelled to consume alcohol, murdered due to property dispute; body discarded in Yamuna

News Mania Desk / Piyal Chatterjee / 13th April 2025

A 28-year-old widow was given alcohol and strangled by her property dealer in Etawah, Uttar Pradesh, after she visited his home to confront him about her unfinished house, for which she had already paid Rs 6 lakh in installments, according to police.

After the murder, the real estate agent discarded her body in the Yamuna, accompanied by a friend. The victim, Anjali, a mother of two, interacted with a property dealer named Shivendra alias Bala, paying him Rs 6 lakh in installments for a piece of land. However, the plot’s registry was never finalized. Irritated, Anjali began insisting on a refund.

On April 7, 2025, Shivendra summoned her to his home under the guise of returning her money. Upon her arrival, Shivendra and his friend Gaurav killed her by strangulation after offering her alcohol. They subsequently discarded her body under a bridge over the Yamuna River.

When Anjali failed to come back that evening, her older sister, Kiran, suspecting something was wrong, notified the police. Kiran alleged that Shivendra had supplied her sister with fraudulent documents and was persistently postponing the possession of the plot for two months.

Throughout the investigation, the police found her missing scooter in a charred condition from a drain. After Shivendra was arrested on suspicion, he admitted to the murder. When the police received details about where he had disposed of the body, they requested assistance from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) to find Anjali’s body, which was uncovered several kilometers downstream.

“The body has been recovered and identified by the family. Based on the accused’s confession, both Shivendra alias Bala and his friend Gaurav have been arrested. We have also recovered the burnt scooter, the car used in the murder, and the towel,” said senior police official Sanjay Kumar.
