A bipartisan duo of U.S. senators sent a message to Nvidia (NVDA.O) CEO Jensen Huang on Friday regarding an impending visit to China, cautioning him against engaging with firms believed to be violating U.S. chip export regulations.

The letter from Republican Senator Jim Banks and Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren urged Huang to refrain from meeting with representatives of firms that collaborate with the military or intelligence agencies of the People’s Republic of China. The senators urged Huang to avoid interactions with organizations identified on the U.S. restricted export list. Huang intended to travel to China on Friday.

A spokesperson for Nvidia stated, “American victories” occur when its technology establishes “the global benchmark,” noting that China has one of the largest groups of software developers globally. The spokesperson stated that AI software “is expected to perform optimally on the U.S. technology stack, prompting countries around the globe to opt for America.”

In May during the Computex exhibition in Taipei, Huang commended President Donald Trump’s choice to eliminate certain export restrictions on artificial intelligence chips and labeled the earlier diffusion regulations as unsuccessful. In April, U.S. restrictions on Nvidia’s AI chips, altered to meet export controls for China, are expected to decrease the company’s revenue by $15 billion, according to the CEO. U.S. lawmakers are increasingly worried about attempts to bypass export controls to China and have suggested a law compelling AI chip firms to confirm the destination of their products.

In the previous month, a report mentioned that a high-ranking U.S. official claimed the AI company DeepSeek is supporting China’s military and intelligence efforts, attempting to utilize shell companies to bypass U.S. export restrictions on AI chips to China. Nvidia intends to release a more affordable variant of its leading Blackwell AI chips for China, as reported by in May.
