Vaswati Misra and Parvathy Baul’s Entralling performance at Kalamandir,Kolkata
Kolkata: Delhi’s famous dance repertory Dhwani organised a colourful evening of Kathak dance and Baul songs at the famous Kalamandir auditorium on 23rd December 2022. Performers were renowned Kathak dancer Vaswati Misra and Parvathy Baul. Both enthralled everyone in the evening. After a long time, the director of Delhi’s Dhwani dance troupe Vaswati Misra performed a mind-blowing solo dance in the cultural capital of the country. Renowned artiste Parvathy Baul also enthralled the audience with her popular songs at the programme.
Coalesce took the inspiration from the works of the mystic poetry of Jalāl ad-Dīn Muḥammad Rūmī .The general theme of Rumi’s thought, like that of other mystic and Sufi poets of Persian literature, is that of tawhid — union with the Beloved Rumi believed passionately in the use of music, poetry and dance as a path for reaching God. He believed, music helped devotees to focus their whole being on the divine and to do this so intensely that the soul was both destroyed and resurrected.
Dhwani, a leading arts organisation, has been in existence since 1984. The company receives grants from the Department of Culture, Govt. Of India and is empanelled with Indian Council for Cultural Relations under ‘outstanding category’. The members of Dhwani have performed at a number of national and international festivals and collaborated with outstanding musicians and writers. Some of the unique productions have been ‘Arpan’, based on the works of Dr. Harivansh Rai Bachchan, sharing the stage with the legend Shri Amitabh Bachchan, ‘Rare Rhythms’ in collaboration with Sivamani, Selva Ganesh and Taufiq Qureshi. A Hindi version of Pinocchio, penned by Gulzar with music by Zakir Hussain.‘Rasaarchana’ with music by Ustad Amjad Ali Khan and a Sufi work ‘Raha’ with Parvathy Baul.
