Veteran actor Pankaj Dheer, best known for his portrayal of Karna in B.R. Chopra’s iconic television series Mahabharat, passed away on October 15, 2025, following a long battle with cancer. He was 68 and was set to celebrate his 69th birthday next month. The Cine & TV Artistes’ Association (CINTAA) confirmed his death, expressing deep sorrow over the loss of a celebrated actor and former Hon. General Secretary and Chairman of the organization.
Dheer’s depiction of Karna remains one of Indian television’s most memorable performances. His nuanced portrayal of the tragic hero won widespread acclaim for its emotional depth, earning him a permanent place in the hearts of audiences. Over the decades, he became synonymous with the role, which continues to influence generations of viewers and actors.
Apart from Mahabharat, Dheer had a prolific career in films and television. Notably, he appeared in the 1999 Bollywood movie Baadshah, sharing screen space with superstar Shah Rukh Khan, among other notable roles in television series and films. His work spanned decades, and he was admired not only for his acting talent but also for his dedication to the Indian entertainment industry.
