Real Madrid star Vinícius Júnior has reportedly paused contract extension talks with the club, citing major disagreements over money and his strained relationship with manager Xabi Alonso. Despite Madrid’s proposal of roughly €20 million, Vinícius is demanding a significantly higher package — approximately €30 million, with generous bonuses and a re-signing bonus.
The tension has been building ever since Madrid’s Club World Cup semi-final defeat to PSG. Vinícius has made just five appearances in 17 games this season and has found himself on the bench multiple times, a contrast to his rise under Carlo Ancelotti. The Brazilian winger has conveyed reluctance to commit to a long-term deal while Alonso remains in charge.
Relations soured publicly after a recent La Liga match against Barcelona, where Vinícius reacted angrily to being substituted, leaving the pitch in frustration. Although he later issued an apology, he notably mentioned club president Florentino Pérez — but made no reference to Alonso.
Sources say Real Madrid are frustrated by the impasse, particularly as Vinícius’s valuation appears out of step with the club’s willingness to match his demands.
