News Mania Desk / Piyal Chatterjee / 30th June 2025

Vodafone Idea (Vi) has broadened its 5G footprint by launching services in 23 additional cities, including Kolkata, Jaipur, Lucknow, Ahmedabad, Pune, Indore, and Cochin. This expansion is part of Vi’s goal to roll out 5G services across all 17 telecom circles by August 2025.

The company reported that over 70% of eligible users in these newly covered areas have already begun using 5G, signaling strong consumer demand. To support the growing user base, Vi has revamped its Family Plan, allowing more users to join under shared data plans starting at ₹299 per month.

Vi has also invested heavily in network infrastructure upgrades. Around 65,000 sites have been enhanced using the 900 MHz band, leading to a 35% increase in 4G capacity and a 26% boost in data speeds. These improvements have extended population coverage from 77% to 84%, adding approximately 88 million users.

The company is deploying AI-based Self-Organising Network (SON) technologies and partnering with global players like Nokia, Ericsson, and Samsung to ensure efficient rollout and quality coverage. Chief Technology Officer Jagbir Singh emphasized Vi’s phased rollout strategy aimed at providing seamless, high-speed connectivity to users nationwide.
