The BJP asked on Monday that the CBI investigate claims made by Minister Priyank Kharge of a Rs 150 million “bribe” offered by party leader B Y Vijayendra to former Minority Commission chairperson Anwar Manippadi. As the Assembly session began, BJP members expressed concerns over Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Kharge’s charge in the House last Thursday. Kharge said that Vijayendra, who is also the Shikaripura BJL MLA, promised Manippadi, a BJP member, Rs 150 crore to not raise the Waqf land issue.Manippadi, as Chairperson of the Karnataka Minority Commission during the previous BJP administration in the state, released a thorough report on the invasion of Waqf land in the state and the involvement of bigwigs.
“The minister had made an allegation in the House in my absence, which was uncalled for. The same was repeated by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. This was a baseless allegation,” Vijayendra said.
He challenged the chief minister to order a CBI inquiry into the alleged Rs 150 crore offer. Vijayendra also requested that the minister apologize for his statements. R Ashoka, the Leader of the Opposition, stated that Kharge made the charge without prior notice.
