News Mania Desk/ Agnibeena Ghosh/9th May 2024
After facing delays due to industry strikes in 2023, production for the second season of “Wednesday” has finally commenced, bringing excitement to fans eagerly awaiting the return of the Netflix series. The news was confirmed by Netflix, accompanied by images of the cast, including Jenna Ortega, engaging in their first reading session.
“Wednesday” made waves as Netflix’s biggest English-language series, garnering significant acclaim and a massive viewership for its innovative take on the iconic Addams family character. Following the adventures of Wednesday Addams as a teenager navigating Nevermore Academy, the series captivated audiences with its blend of horror, humor, and teenage drama.
Jenna Ortega, who portrays the titular role, not only earned critical acclaim but also assumes the role of executive producer for the upcoming season. As anticipation mounts for Season 2, here’s what viewers can expect from the continuation of the teen horror series.
Ortega will reprise her role as Wednesday Addams, leading the ensemble cast that includes Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia, Luis Guzmán as Gomez, and Isaac Ordonez as Pugsley. Additionally, Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo, portraying a deputy of Sheriff Galpin, has been promoted to a series regular, expanding the Addams family dynamic.
Joining Ortega are returning cast members Emma Myers, Joy Sunday, Hunter Doohan, Victor Dorobantu, Moosa Mostafa, and Georgie Farmer, reprising their roles as Wednesday’s friends. Fred Armisen and Jamie McShane return in guest roles, adding depth to the ensemble.
Excitingly, the second season introduces new cast members, including Billie Piper, Evie Templeton, Owen Painter, and Noah Taylor, each bringing their unique talents to the series. The addition of renowned actors such as Christopher Lloyd, Joanna Lumley, Frances O’Connor, Haley Joel Osment, Heather Matarazzo, and Joonas Suotamo further enriches the ensemble, promising captivating performances.
However, one notable absence from the cast is Percy Hynes White, who portrayed Xavier Thorpe in Season 1. While his character played a pivotal role in the first season’s storyline, White will not be returning for Season 2. Netflix has not provided official reasons for his absence, but allegations of misconduct against the actor in 2023 may have influenced this decision.
Fans can anticipate the signature style of Tim Burton, who will direct and executive produce the series, alongside executive producers Al Gough and Miles Millar, who also contribute to the writing and co-showrunning. With Burton’s visionary direction and the creative talents behind the scenes, “Wednesday” Season 2 promises to deliver an immersive and visually stunning experience.
As for the release date, Netflix has yet to confirm a specific timeline. However, considering the production timeline and previous releases from the streaming service, it is reasonable to expect Season 2 to premiere sometime in 2025. Until then, fans can eagerly anticipate further updates and prepare for another thrilling chapter in the world of “Wednesday.”
