India Supplies Diesel to Bangladesh Amid Energy Disruptions

India has begun supplying 5,000 tonnes of diesel to Bangladesh through the Bangladesh–India
Friendship Pipeline, helping the neighbouring country manage fuel shortages caused by global
energy disruptions linked to tensions in West Asia. The shipment is being transported from
Numaligarh Refinery Limited in Assam to the Parbatipur depot in northern Bangladesh,
marking the start of a new delivery cycle under an existing fuel supply agreement between the
two nations.
Bangladesh has faced increasing pressure on its energy supplies as geopolitical tensions have
disrupted global oil flows and driven up prices. As a country heavily dependent on imported
petroleum products, it remains vulnerable to fluctuations in the international energy market.
The 130-km Bangladesh–India Friendship Pipeline, inaugurated in 2023 by Prime Minister
Narendra Modi and Sheikh Hasina, enables faster and more efficient fuel transfer compared to
railway transport. The latest shipment is expected to support electricity generation and
transportation while reinforcing the growing energy partnership between India and Bangladesh.

Global Oil and Energy Crisis Deepens Amid Middle East Tensions

Global energy markets are facing renewed pressure as crude oil prices surge to $100–$115 per
barrel, driven by escalating conflict in West Asia and growing concerns over possible
disruptions in the strategic Strait of Hormuz. The narrow waterway is one of the world’s most
critical routes for oil shipments, and any threat to its security has immediate repercussions on
global fuel prices.
The sharp rise in oil prices has begun to affect several sectors. Airlines across many countries
are increasing ticket prices to offset rising aviation fuel costs, while transportation and logistics
expenses are also climbing.
Some countries are already experiencing serious fuel supply challenges. Nations such as
Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates are reportedly facing fuel shortages and refinery
disruptions, raising concerns about domestic energy stability.
Energy analysts warn that prolonged instability in the region could further strain global supply
chains, push inflation higher, and slow economic recovery in several countries dependent on
imported fuel. Governments worldwide are closely monitoring the situation as uncertainty
continues in global energy markets.

Mojtaba Khamenei Named Iran’s New Supreme Leader Amid War Crisis

Mojtaba Khamenei has been appointed as the new Supreme Leader of Iran following the death of
his father, Ali Khamenei, during ongoing military strikes linked to the escalating regional
conflict. The decision was taken by the country’s powerful Assembly of Experts after an
emergency session.
The 56-year-old cleric becomes Iran’s third Supreme Leader, assuming the country’s highest
political and religious authority at a time of severe national crisis and heavy bombing across
parts of the country.
His appointment marks the first dynastic-style succession in the Islamic Republic’s history,
since the son of a supreme leader has succeeded his father—an unusual development for a
system originally established after the 1979 revolution to reject hereditary rule.
Mojtaba Khamenei has long been considered influential behind the scenes and maintains close
ties with the powerful Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Analysts say his leadership is likely
to continue the country’s hardline policies amid the ongoing regional war and geopolitical
tensions.
The transition comes at a critical moment as Iran faces intensifying conflict, economic strain,
and international pressure, making the new leader’s early decisions crucial for the country’s
political and military trajectory.

Shooting Incident at U.S. Consulate in Toronto Under Investigation

Canadian authorities are investigating a “national security incident” after gunfire targeted the
United States Consulate General Toronto in downtown Toronto early Tuesday morning.
According to police, two suspects arrived in a white Honda CR-V, exited the vehicle and fired
multiple rounds from a handgun toward the consulate building before fleeing the scene.
Despite the attack, no injuries were reported, and the fortified structure prevented serious
damage to personnel inside.
Investigators recovered shell casings and minor damage to parts of the building. The incident
occurred around 4:30–5:30 a.m. local time, when people were inside the consulate but the area
was relatively quiet.
Canada’s Royal Canadian Mounted Police and Toronto police are leading the investigation
with support from U.S. authorities. Officials said it is too early to determine the motive,
including whether the attack is linked to terrorism.
Following the shooting, security has been strengthened around U.S. and Israeli diplomatic
facilities across Canada, including in Toronto and Ottawa. Authorities have urged the public to
provide any surveillance or dash-cam footage that may help identify the suspects.

Officials have condemned the attack as an act of intimidation and violence, stressing that
diplomatic missions must remain protected.

Political Shift in Nepal: Balen Shah Set to Become Youngest Prime Minister

Balen Shah, a former rapper turned politician, is poised to become Nepal’s youngest-ever
Prime Minister after his party secured a landslide victory in the country’s first national elections
following a recent youth-led political movement.
Shah, widely known as “Balen”, rose to prominence after gaining popularity among young
voters and urban communities who sought major political reforms and stronger governance. His
campaign focused on anti-corruption measures, transparency, youth participation, and
modernizing Nepal’s governance system.
The election marks a significant turning point for Nepal, where a wave of youth activism and
public dissatisfaction with traditional political leadership reshaped the political landscape. Shah’s
victory is widely viewed as a symbol of a new generation entering national leadership.
Observers say the transition could bring fresh policy approaches and greater focus on urban
development, technology-driven governance, and economic reforms. If confirmed, Shah’s
leadership would represent a historic shift toward youth-driven politics in Nepal’s democratic
system.
