NCC Shapes Confident and Responsible Youth: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the National Cadet Corps (NCC) plays a vital role in shaping India’s
youth into confident, disciplined, and socially sensitive citizens. Highlighting the organisation’s
contribution to nation-building, he said NCC instils values of unity, leadership, and selfless service among
young Indians. The Prime Minister noted that NCC cadets actively contribute during national
emergencies and social initiatives, reflecting the spirit of duty and patriotism. He reaffirmed the
government’s commitment to strengthening NCC to empower youth and build a strong, inclusive nation.

18th Rozgar Mela Held at BSF Digberia Headquarters

Buddhadeb Misra : The 18th Rozgar Mela under the Union Government’s Mission Mode
Recruitment Drive was successfully organised at the headquarters of the 74th Battalion, BSF,
Digberia, in Madhyamgram, North 24 Parganas. Union Minister of State for Ports, Shipping and
Waterways Shri Shantanu Thakur attended the event as Chief Guest and handed over
appointment letters to 25 newly recruited candidates.
A total of 100 candidates participated physically in the Rozgar Mela. While 25 appointment
letters were distributed by the Union Minister, the remaining were handed over by senior officers
and dignitaries. The recruits will join various Central Armed Police Forces, including BSF,
Assam Rifles, CRPF, CISF, ITBP, SSB and BOB.

Operation Sindoor Disrupts Terror Network: COAS

The Indian Army remains focused on Operation Sindoor, launched in response to the Pahalgam
terror attack. Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi said the operation involved a swift
and decisive 22-minute strike on identified terror targets. He noted that the precision action not
only neutralised threats but also significantly disrupted Pakistani military decision-making.
The operation underscores India’s firm resolve to respond decisively to terrorism and safeguard
national security, with the Army maintaining heightened operational readiness along the borders.
Army Steps Up Security in Siliguri Corridor
The Indian Army has reportedly strengthened its presence and operational control in the Siliguri
Corridor, strategically known as the “Chicken’s Neck,” amid emerging security challenges in
the Northeast. The move follows regional instability and aims to ensure uninterrupted
connectivity between the Northeast and the rest of the country. Enhanced deployment,
surveillance, and preparedness measures are intended to safeguard this vital strategic passage and
maintain overall regional security.


Army to Lead Low-Altitude Border Monitoring with Drone Induction

The Indian Army is set to assume primary responsibility for monitoring low-altitude airspace
along the borders with China and Pakistan under a new surveillance plan. The initiative
involves the induction of nearly 30,000 drones, aimed at enhancing real-time monitoring, early
warning, and rapid response capabilities. The move is expected to significantly strengthen border
security by improving situational awareness and countering emerging aerial threats, especially in
sensitive and challenging terrains.


MoD Signs Contract for 90 LCH Prachand Helicopters for Army

The Ministry of Defence has signed contracts for the procurement of 90 Light Combat
Helicopters (LCH) Prachand exclusively for the Indian Army. The induction of these
indigenously developed helicopters will significantly enhance the Army’s combat capabilities,
particularly in high-altitude and challenging terrain. Designed for both offensive and defensive
roles, the LCH Prachand strengthens India’s push for self-reliance in defence manufacturing and
boosts operational readiness along the borders.


Army Upgrades Pinaka Systems, Signs ₹4,666 Cr CQB Carbine Deal

The Indian Army is strengthening its firepower with major upgrades in advanced weaponry. The
force is set to induct 120-km range variants of the Pinaka Rocket System, significantly
enhancing its long-range strike capabilities. In addition, the Army has signed a ₹4,666 crore
contract for the procurement of advanced Close Quarter Battle (CQB) carbines, aimed at
boosting infantry effectiveness in urban and close-combat scenarios. These upgrades mark a key
step in modernising the Army’s arsenal and improving operational readiness.


10 Army Personnel Killed in Doda Gorge Accident

Ten Indian Army personnel lost their lives and several others were injured on January 22, 2026,
when their vehicle plunged into a deep gorge in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir during
an operational movement. The accident occurred in difficult terrain amid challenging conditions.
Rescue teams were rushed to the spot, and the injured were evacuated for medical treatment.
Senior Army officials expressed deep condolences to the bereaved families and assured all
necessary support. An inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the cause of the tragic incident.


Army Signs MoU with NSUT for AI-Based Defence Solutions

The Indian Army has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Netaji Subhas
University of Technology (NSUT) to develop advanced software and AI-driven solutions
aimed at modernising field operations and combat systems. The collaboration will focus on
leveraging cutting-edge technologies to enhance decision-making, operational efficiency, and
battlefield effectiveness. The initiative reflects the Army’s push towards digital transformation
and adoption of emerging technologies to meet evolving security challenges.
