West Bengal Junior Doctors continue cease work despite SC direction

The Supreme Court ordered the propesting junior doctors of West Bengal to return to work in order to provide service to the patients in need on Monday. On September 9, the bench comprising CJI DY Chandrachud, Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, that is in charge of delivering justice to the case of the horrendous RG Kar rape and murder, stated, “If the doctors report for duty on or before 5 pm tomorrow then no adverse disciplinary action shall be taken against them. All complaints on safety and security shall be promptly attended to. However, if there is continuous abstaining from work then disciplinary action can be taken against them and they cannot be oblivious to the general concerns of the community whom they are intended to serve.”
It has been more than a month since the incident took place and the junior doctors have been in protest along with the civilians who have been asking for justice and protection of healthcare professionals at the workplace. They have also been infuriated by the statement from CM Mamata Banerjee as she said on Monday, “Return to the pujas, return to the utsav.”
On Tuesday noon, the protesting medicos will be taking out a rally to ‘Swasthya Bhavan’ – the headquarters of the health department in Salt Lake with the demand of the resignation of WB’s health secretary and director of health education (DHE). Speaking to PTI, one of the protesting doctors said, “Our demands are unfulfilled and justice is not meted out to the victim. We will continue our agitation as well as the ‘cease work’. We want the health secretary and DHE to resign. Tomorrow noon, we will hold a rally to the Swasthya Bhavan.”
The junior doctors have been alleged for the numerous deaths in West Bengal as they have been in protest instead of serving the citizens. The protesting healthcare professionals stand firm on their decision of not returning to work.
