What Are Pakistan’s Prospects Of Making It To The Semi-Finals Now That India Has Lost Against South Africa?

For Pakistan, October 30 was a significant day. In the 2022 T20 World Cup, three games from Group 2 were supposed to determine a team’s prospects of moving on to the semifinal round. Since Pakistan lost to India and then Zimbabwe, a lot of Pakistan’s hopes now depend on how the other competitors in the group perform. The majority of October 30 was spent with joy by Pakistan fans. After a dramatic final over, Bangladesh defeated Zimbabwe in a thriller, and the Babar Azam-led team defeated Netherlands to win their first match of the competition. However, the match that would have largely determined their hopes of moving on to the knockout phase did not go their way as India lost their top spot to South Africa by five wickets in Perth, handing them their first loss of the competition. What are Pakistan’s prospects of making it to the semi-finals now that India has lost?
India was in control of Group 2 and was one victory away from securing a place in the semifinals. South Africa shocked the Men in Blue, though, by winning in Perth and taking the top spot in the table. They are now the overwhelming favorites to win the group. The only thing separating India and Bangladesh from one another on the standings is their different net run rates.
After India’s defeat, can Pakistan possibly reach the T20 World Cup semifinals?
They must, of course, win their final two games in order to finish with a maximum of six points against South Africa on November 3 and Bangladesh on November 6. Six points won’t be enough for Pakistan, though, if the India game doesn’t go their way. Their hopes now depend more and more on outside sources.
When it comes down to a fight between teams with six points, their victory over the Proteas won’t allow them to take the first spot in the table, and they also need to win their next two games by significant margins to have a shot in terms of NRR.
