Whenever awards are discussed in India, the Bharat Ratna is the first name mentioned. It is the nation’s top civilian honor, awarded for outstanding and exemplary service across multiple areas. The previous year, five Bharat Ratna awards were revealed. This accolade was bestowed upon Karpoori Thakur, Lal Krishna Advani, Chaudhary Charan Singh, P.V. Narasimha Rao, and M.S. Swaminathan.
In addition to this recognition presented by the President of the nation, the recipient also receives various benefits from the government. They are prioritized accordingly and are also invited to exclusive government functions. If you believe that gold or silver is utilized in creating the esteemed Bharat Ratna award, you are incorrect.
As stated on the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting’s website, an individual who receives the Bharat Ratna is presented with a certificate signed by the President along with a medal. This medal is shaped like a peepal leaf and crafted from pure copper. The length measures 5.8 cm, the width is 4.7 cm, and the thickness is 3.1 cm. This leaf features a gleaming sun crafted from platinum. The boundary of the peepal leaf is composed of platinum as well. The second section of the Bharat Ratna features ‘Bharat Ratna’ inscribed in Hindi at the base. On the reverse side, ‘Satyamev Jayate’ is engraved beneath the Ashoka pillar.
The Bharat Ratna is produced at a single location in the country. The responsibility for creating it is assigned by the Government of India to the Kolkata Mint. This medal is crafted through diligent effort by skilled artisans. Founded in 1757, the Kolkata Mint has produced the Bharat Ratna since it began operations. Other honors like Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, Padma Shri, and Param Vir Chakra are also produced at this mint.
