WhatsApp introduces integrated document scanner: Here’s how it functions.

News Mania Desk / Piyal Chatterjee/ 5th January 2025

Should the court fail to prevent the law by Jan. 19, new TikTok downloads from Apple or Google app stores would be prohibited, although current users could still use the app. Over time, services would deteriorate and ultimately cease functioning since companies would be prohibited from offering support. Biden might prolong the deadline by 90 days if he verifies that ByteDance is making significant strides toward a divestiture. Trump’s backing for TikTok marks a shift from 2020, when he attempted to ban the app in the United States and push for its sale to American firms due to its Chinese ownership.

WhatsApp, the instant messaging application owned by Meta and utilized by over two billion users globally, continually tests and introduces new functionalities. Although the app includes several features, users must depend on external apps to scan and transmit documents.

However, with a new update, WhatsApp is introducing a feature for iPhone users that enables them to scan documents using the in-app camera and share them with anyone on their contact list, all while staying within the app. This is quite helpful as users used to need to open a third-party application to scan a document, store it in a folder, and then share it as an attachment with others. To utilize the integrated WhatsApp document scanner on an iPhone, launch WhatsApp on your device, tap the “Plus” button on the lower bar, and choose Documents. You will now observe three choices – “Select from files”, “Select photo or video” and “Scan document”.

By selecting the third option, the in-app camera will launch, and you must then align the document within the viewfinder before tapping the shutter to scan it. You can now share it with others just like a regular document. WhatsApp mentions that it is slowly implementing the new feature, so there might be a delay before the new option appears on your device. Additionally, it remains uncertain if and when the feature will be launched on Android devices, meaning users will need to rely on third-party applications for now.
